This course will help students develop an appreciation of Knowledge Management (KM) as a way to improve organizational performance through a set of processes, tools and incentives designed to help people to create, share, source and integrate knowledge. Specific topics include building an organizational memory, improving ad-hoc access to employees’ knowledge, fostering on-line communities, supporting virtual teams and implementing systems to improve collaboration. Through case studies, lectures, and readings, this course builds a foundation of understanding KMS by first establishing an awareness of the core underlying issues that must be addressed in any KM implementation.
