The curriculum for the MS-MIS Degree (and the corresponding part of the MBA/MS-MIS Dual Degree) is designed to leverage your background, experience, and exposure in IS and prepare you to take on positions IS leadership and IS-Enabled problems solving with organizations.

The MS-MIS core is designed to provide you with an opportunity to build on your background and experience to develop a solid foundation in the design, application, and management of information systems. It also ensure that you will have the skills and abilities you need to be competitive for internships and the next steps in you career.

The IS Technical Core includes:

These courses focus on the skills and knowledge you will need to effectively apply the information techologies that are central to business systems. They are designed to build on your background and prior experience to help you develop a comprehensive foundation in the design and application of information systems.

The IS Management Core includes:

These courses cover key IS management issues at the project-level, firm-level, and industry-level providing you with foundational knowledge of the issues, techniques, and approaches that are central to managing information systems in complex, global organizations.

The IS Practicum provides you with the opportunity to develop your IS leadership and IS problem solving skills through a program involvement, analysis and networking.

[edit] MS-MIS Specializations

During the fall of your first year you will have the opportunity to select a MS-MIS specialization: IS Management, Supply Chain, Customer Analytics, New Venture Creation/Entrepreneurship, or Healthcare and IS. Your choice of a specialization will provide guidance in selection of electives (and an MBA concentration if you are in the MBA/MS-MIS Dual Degree program).

The specializations have been designed to provide you with a structure that helps you take full advantage of the range of electives offered within Katz and the University of Pittsburgh to build a capability set that solid foundation for your immediate job search and your longer term-career development.
