MIS Practicum: Guest Speakers
From Information Systems at Pitt Business
The MIS Practicum is designed to improve students' understanding of what it takes to be an IS expert and facilitate their development as an expert in their areas of specialization. Guest speakers focus on describing their background, discussing their own professional goals, and answering about their experience. By providing real examples of the ideas and concepts that are discussed in the practicum speakers provide a valuable, important part of the process od developing expert competence.
While there is a great deal of flexibility, speakers are asked to describe their background (prior work experience, education and credentials, etc.) with a special emphasis on questions such as:
- What are you an expert in? What is one situation/instance/story that demonstrates how you have applied that expertise?
- What you are you known for/as professionally (e.g. “I have the reputation of being a….”)? What did you do to develop that reputation?
- What are 2-3 specific things you have done (or are doing) that contribute to your professional development?
