[edit] Research
His personal attraction to new technologies, computers, and the internet, coupled with his diverse business background has created an interest in understanding how new technologies impact individuals, organizations, and society. Specifically, his research goals are focused on better understanding how individuals utilize and interact with technology, and how this impacts their interpersonal and organizational-based interactions.
With these goals in mind, his primary research interest is focused on understanding the dynamics of online communities. Specifically, exploring the influence of member related bonds (member centric, member-member, and member-community) on the performance of essential online community work (e.g., contribution, community citizenship, and audience engagement). This work seeks to add to the collective understanding of the relatively new online community phenomena, while at the same time making recommendations that can be used by community administrators/owners to improve the management of communities.
In addition to the online community research, he am also interested in knowledge management. The work he is involved with integrates two relatively distinct literatures on expertise, cognitive and perceived, arguing an integrated view of expertise has implications for knowledge transfer. He also have an interest in exploring issues related to the formation of trust, perceived product quality, and intention to buy in an e-commerce context.
