Amazing Quotes -
- "If you have ego, it will be hurt!" - Dr Dennis Galletta's take on publishing your research in Information Systems
- "I don't know" & " It depends" - According to Dr Dennis Galletta, a researcher's answer to a question before beginning the PhD and after getting the PhD
- "I went on a trip to the southern part of Africa, there is poverty. But you know not abject poverty, you know, like you see in third world countries like India, where people lie naked on streets, you know." - Overheard from an unnamed PhD student at the Joseph M Katz Graduate School of Business (The Slumdog effect seems to be catching up, even with the purported skeptical minds in the academia. One wonders what happened to the cold war era definition of third-world as being non-aligned either with USA, the so called first world or with USSR, the second-world. Tellingly portraying how wrong one can be even while being partly correct in the same generalization, especially if one has never visited India! Also conveys the disadvantages a democracy suffers from as compared to another second world country with rampant poverty – China, but with stricter controls over media and an impossibility of the Slumdog effect.)
On Sachin Tendulkar, Strange Ideas (!) and the Occam's Razor -
- They say that when Sachin Tendulkar bats India stops, which may be why they haven't yet taken over the global economy! - Derek Pringle in his Telegraph Column. So much ado for nothing about Chindia. We have an Occam's Razor here!
- I have seen God. He bats at number 4 for India. - Australian opener Matthew Hayden receives revelation about Sachin Tendulkar.
- He's an unlikely looking god. - Simon Hughes' observation of Sachin tendulkar in The Telegraph.
- He was entertained. So were those around. And when Tendulkar is happy, usually so is the rest of India. - Sidharth Monga's tour diary for Cricinfo.
- The archives recall not one single incriminating incident, not one drunken escapade, not one reported affair, not one spat with a team-mate or reporter ... As Matthew Parris wondered of Barack Obama in these pages recently, is he human? - Michael Atherton ponders the sinless Sachin Tendulkar in the Times
- Even my father's name is Sachin Tendulkar! - Tendulkar's daughter, Sara, tells her class her father's name after the teacher informs them of a restaurant of the same name in Mumbai
- With Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara, it was better to be friends and make them smile rather than wind them up! - Sledging doesn't work with all players, warns Shane Warne
- Nothing bad can happen to us if we're on a plane in India with Sachin Tendulkar on it.- Hashim Amla, the South African batsman, reassures himself as he boards a flight.
- Sachin Tendulkar is, in my time, the best player without doubt - daylight second, Brian Lara third. - Shane Warne delights the Indian press with his views on batting greats of this era
