Web 2.0 and Pharmaceuticals Marketing
From Information Systems at Pitt Business
What does Web 2.0 really mean and what opportunities does it present firms in the Pharmaceuticals industry?
Working with a major pharmaceuticals firm, a team of Katz MBA and MBA/MS-MIS students (George Zhang, Jen-Wei Hung, Amee Parikh, Chao-Yin Wu, and Dustyn Brown) and faculty (Brian Butler) identified a portfolio of technologies that fit within the Web 2.0 umbrella, described a range of opportunities that these technologies present, and outlines a collection of potentially high impact Web 2.0-based business initiatives.
Based on their research the Katz team prepared both presentations and documents for internal stakeholders. They also prepared an opportunity matrix that was used by the internal champion to guide their efforts to introduce Web 2.0 technologies into the firm’s business practices.

- Web 2.0: Business Opportunities Analysis (white paper and presentation slides)
- Answers to Web 2.0 Questions following the presentation
As a result of this project, the client initiated additional projects in this area and several of the students have begun careers that involve working with business applications of Web 2.0 technologies.
