A list of features, documents, and other things that would useful to add to the KatzIS site:

Contents

[edit] Project Course Overview

Create a project course overview for the official set (the ones run by Bud Smith) and for other project courses run by members of the Katz IS community.

[edit] Interview Template for MS-MIS

Create a set of interview questions that can be used to create profiles of MS-MIS alumni and other Katz IS partners.

[edit] Katz IS Community Accomplishments Blog and RSS Feed

Create a blog-like page or set of pages to support recording and promotion of the accomplishments of members of the Katz IS Community

[edit] Improve Website for Part-Time Students

The student records requests that navigation of MBA/MS-MIS materials for Part-Time students be improved. Possibly create a visible drop-down menu that links to a bridge page for Part-Time students (under the "Information for...current students"?

[edit] Automate Updating of Navigation and Highlight Pages based on Content Pages

Identify as many places as possible where content pages (e.g. Project, Program documents, paper and presention pages, people pages, etc.) can be used inconjuction with the Dynamics Page List extension to automatically maintain the associated highlight and navigation pages.

For example:

Faculty pages need to include links to all of the documents (papers, presentations, reports, grants, etc.) that they are associated with. If each document page also includes a link to their page (which it should) then the faculty page can be maintained by including lists with appropriate category selection on their home page.

Similarly with course syllabi and other documents. Lists of these can be maintained automatically - which creates incentive to keep the content up-to date and the category structure functioning properly.

This approach can also be used to create administrative (e.g. list of MBA course syllabi) and navigation (e.g. Facutly and Staff Portal).

ISSUE: How to include an appropriate information scent/lead? Should this be recorded with the document? Or should it be added to the list (i.e. which end of the link is the information scent tag determined by?)

[edit] Creation of Portals

There need to be clean entry portals for

These pages should provide customized entry points into the materials that take into account the needs, questions, and interests of each segment of the community.

[edit] Documents for the MBA/MS-MIS Dual Degree

[edit] Current MBA/MS-MIS and MS-MIS Only Students

The Masters Students page should list the current students. Each students should have a page that includes:

  • A profile
  • A link to their resume
  • A photo (maybe?)
  • A link to their degree requirements records/checklist
  • A link to their MIS Practicum portfolio

This is an important part of being in the Katz community - it helps us see who is here.

[edit] Alumni List

A list of the alumni for each of the programs (just names - since they are relatively easy to maintain and don't change much)

[edit] Ability to quickly e-mail a page

There needs to be the ability to quickly e-mail a page (or set of pages) - 1-2 clicks.

[edit] Digg and other Social Bookmarking/Social Tagging

For driving traffic to the site, dissminating the information from the site, and determining how useful the materials are (because you get information about this from a certain population).

There are dangers here though - these sites can drive drastically higher volumes for popular items. Also there are questions about whether this is the true target audience.

[edit] Spellchecker

The quality of the website would be easier to maintain with a spellchecker.

[edit] Improved Person Template

  • Template:Infobox should be renamed Template:Infobox Person or something more descriptive.
  • The attributes in it should be made conditional - so that when they aren't provided they aren't included
  • The e-mail should converted into a graphic to protect it
  • Pictures should be made smaller (to avoid pixelation).

[edit] Map of Community Members (where they're from and/or where they are at)

Use Google Map to provide a plot of where the members of the Pitt Business IS community are.

[edit] Custom Wiki Skin (Done)

At the very least is would be better if the gray boarder was replaces with a solid navy blue.
